A wealthy invalid dies and the heirs struggle over what is rightfully theirs. Stormy nights, huge house, an over-the-top performance from Peter Lorre and a wonderfully restrained one from J. Carrol Naish are the ingredients for a great movie. Underrated classic directed by Robert Florey.
Scenes of a disembodied hand and Lorre driven to insanity are unforgettable. The piano playing at night with apparently no one but the hand/spirit of the dead man playing will stay with you.
