John Carradine is great as the murdering artist/puppet-maker. He's cultured, suave and a tormented killer of women. A cat and mouse game with beautiful photography. One of the best films ever to come out of PRC Studios. Director Edgar Ulmer adds some of his finest touches since THE BLACK CAT with shadows of crosses, angled perspectives and a moody Gothic feel.
