The East Side Kids are chasin' spooks again! It's the city kids in for a country mystery. This belongs in there with GHOSTS ON THE LOOSE and SPOOKS RUN WILD. The East Side Kids have car trouble while traveling to summer camp. They end up at a huge stone mansion. The ghost of the former mistress "Lenore" is said to haunt the castle.
This has the BEST scary performance I've ever seen out of the hatchet-faced character actress Minerva Urecal. Three scenes are stand outs. One where she's looking through a fire, one where she's warning the boys about Lenore in a genuinely creeeeepy scene with an ultra close-up underlit. This woman was freakin' me out. And, there's a scene very similar to one in 1932's THE OLD DARK HOUSE where Urecal is threating the heroine about her flesh that will yellow and rot. Wowsa.
