THE LEOPARD MAN (1943) This is the film most remembered for one gruesome scene, especially for the year 1943. A young woman is pounding at the door of her house to be let in, screaming that it's life or death. The mother is mad at her daughter and won't open the door. The next thing you see is blood pooling under the door. There are lots of shadows, images and suspense that are trademarks of Val Lewton produced films. A serious of brutal murders blamed on an escaped leopard. But suspicions are that it's more than a leopard....perhaps a human monster.
THE GHOST SHIP (1943) Stars Richard Dix, Russell Wade, Edith Barrett and Skelton Knaggs. A Val Lewton masterpiece of subtle, building terror. A young sailor pits his reputation (and life) against the diabolical, insane mind of a manic ship captain. Beautifully filmed with stunning suspense and great acting.
