Weird South Seas tale with John Carradine laying on the ham as a tough-guy sailor. Gale Sondergaard is a....well, she is in this and as usual she puts in an outstanding performance. Sidney Toler (Charlie Chan) is a deceptive sea captain. Directed by cult hero Edgar Ulmer (THE BLACK CAT). Real cheap production...but what a cast! You can notice that the "ocean" is about 3 feet deep in the PRC studios!
